UPCOMING PROJECTS

Upcoming Projects for Soil Shine

In 2020 Rocky and Olivia and Olivia’s family bought 21 acres of raw land. We see this property as a seventh-generation food production space, and we are planting crops that will hopefully outlive us and sustain people on this land for years to come. We are planting crops like chestnuts, black walnuts, apples, pears, and berries, just to name a few.

In addition to the longer term crops, we are also establishing a field for elderberry production. As the plants mature, we hope to develop a line of herbal elderberry products to complement our current food offerings. In the fall of 2023, we debuted a probiotic Elderberry Elixir made with wild elderberries to pave the way for our future products to come.

We are following agroforestry and permaculture principles as we believe perennial agriculture can sequester carbon, be resilient to changing climate conditions, and produce food in less certain times. We actively manage the forests and riparian areas for food and wildlife habitat with prescribed burning, invasive species removal, and timber stand improvement.

We have community workdays at this property a few times a year. If you’re interested in getting involved, please reach out!
